Chiropractor
Chiropractic is a regulated primary healthcare profession. Our Chiropractords is trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of your musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on your nervous system and general health. Chiropractors are best known for their specialist interest in treating neck and back pain and are trained to treat problems throughout the entire body.
Our patients consult us for a range of conditions which include:
Lower back pain including sciatica
Neck pain
Cervicogenic headaches (arising from the neck) and migraine prevention
Generalised aches and pains
Joint pains
Elbow pains and tennis elbow
Ankle sprain
Rotator cuff injuries and soft tissue conditions of the shoulder
Minor sports injuries and tensions
Muscle spasms/cramp
Tension and inability to relax
Plantar fasciitis
Chiropractors are trained to diagnose and treat you without the need for a referral from another practitioner (such as your GP).
What to expect at a session:
At your initial chiropractic consultation, your chiropractor will ask you to explain how your pain began, and what it means to you to make sure we understand the impact your pain has been having on your life. You’ll be able to talk through any historic elements that you think may have had an impact on the current problem. This will help your chiropractor to create a treatment plan suited for you and ensure that you achieve the goals you want from care.
Our Chiropractors understand what pain and problems you can encounter as a result of day to day stress or injuries. As part of your treatment programme, your chiropractor will work to help restore your normal function and relieve pain. In doing so, chiropractic care can help relieve the pain and discomfort that arises from injury, stress, poor posture, lack of exercise and every day strains! Your treatment programme may include manual therapy (adjustments of your spine and joints), soft tissue work, acupuncture, exercises and other techniques. Our treatment plans include self-help advice, and personalised exercise programmes.
Care is suitable for all ages- from the very young to the very old!
Whilst you might come to see us for lower back and neck pain, you can also see us for help with a range of other problems related to the muscles, joints and nerves in any part of your body. Your chiropractor will take your entire physical and psychological wellbeing into account as this can have an impact on your pain and response to care. Remember, chiropractors don’t just relieve pain- we help you take control of it.
Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy focuses on injury prevention, pain relief, recovery, and restoring optimal function. It is suitable for people of all ages and abilities — from those with everyday aches and pains to active individuals, athletes, and people recovering from injury.
At Acorn Health, Massage Therapy is provided by Jo Armstrong, a Level 5 qualified sports massage therapist with a strong interest in movement, biomechanics, and how the body responds to load. Her approach is informed by sport and exercise science and treats the body as an interconnected system, rather than focusing on symptoms alone.
Sports massage uses evidence-informed techniques to support training, competition, work-related strain, and general physical wellbeing. Treatment may help to reduce pain, improve mobility, aid recovery, and prepare the body for activity.
Techniques offered include:
- Sports and remedial massage
- Dry needling and cupping
- Lymphatic drainage
- Rehabilitation support
- Pregnancy massage
- Swedish massage, aromatherapy, and reflexology
Education is a key part of care, with advice often provided to support movement, recovery, and long-term results.
If you’re unsure whether sports massage therapy is right for you, our team can help guide you before booking.
Red Light Therapy
Red Light Therapy, also known as phototherapy, involves the use of specific wavelengths of light to treat various medical conditions and alleviate pain. This non-invasive treatment harnesses the power of light to penetrate the skin and tissues, stimulating cellular repair and regeneration. The therapy is safe, painless, and has been shown to be effective for a range of conditions and problems.
